Swiss company Rinspeed is planning a squba concept for the Geneva Motor Show.Rinspeed squba concept which has more than a touch of Lotus Elise about it, is the latest in a proud tradition of vehicles that attempt to be equally at home on the land or in the water.
Swiss company Rinspeed is planning a squba concept for the Geneva Motor Show.Rinspeed squba concept which has more than a touch of Lotus Elise about it, is the latest in a proud tradition of vehicles that attempt to be equally at home on the land or in the water.
 The Rinspeed sQuba concept is seemingly based on James Bond’s Lotus Esprit from the film The Spy Who Loved Me, which you’ll remember could transform into a submarine. Strange as it sounds, Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht had this film in mind when developing the sQuba, saying that the car, “symbolizes the realization of a long-cherished dream and of movie fictions.” Right. 
 The sQuba concept would almost certainly fair better in the water than Bond’s Lotus could. The electrically powered car is capable of diving to a depth of 33 feet, and is motivated underwater through the use of two propellers in the stern, as well as two jets in the bow. The sQuba’s driver is able to breath in the deep, thanks to an on-board, self-contained system. Rinspeed doesn’t exactly specify what kind of “system” it is, but we’re told that there’s “fresh breathing air” involved. Look this great video about Rinspeed squba concept |
